What I Learned From Reviewing LinkedIn Profiles

I hope you have been enjoying Throwback Thursdays while I was on vacation, but now it’s back to new content!  While vacationing, the one thing I always do related to business is to keep up on my LinkedIn profile.  You can learn so much from following people.  This week’s blog is going to look at this insightful tool and what it reveals about today.

Back To Basics

First of all, it should be noted the number of people who post daily.  People post about everything – from their cats to their accomplishments.  LinkedIn, which was supposed to be strictly business, has fallen far off that mark. It’s almost more like a Facebook account.  However, hiring managers love scouring LinkedIn accounts, especially when you are at the offer stage.  Before you enter into serious search mode, look at your LinkedIn profile and make sure it represents what you want the employers to see and know about you.

The Real Fundamentals For Your LinkedIn Profile

Next, if you designate yourself as “open to network” on your LinkedIn profile with that badge surrounding your name, make sure you have personal contact information (so you can actually be contacted).  Generally, someone who utilizes this badge is looking to have hiring discussions. If you cannot be reached, it’s worthless.  That is unless you are the few who are just wanting to make more contacts. If by chance you have lost your position, then make sure you change your contact information immediately.  If the only way to reach out to you is through your old firm contact (i.e., phone and/or email), then again, it’s impossible for a recruiter to make contact with you and start a dialogue that could lead to new opportunities.

2025 LinkedIn Profile Trend

Those may be some obvious elements that need to be addressed; however, what I am truly finding very revealing is the number of people who are changing their designation to “retired.”  Every day there are more and more people who are retiring from their current long-time positions.  Why is this LinkedIn profile trend intriguing to a recruiter? It’s because all these positions have to be re-filled, especially the bankers and bond counsels.  This shows that there really is a plethora of new opportunities out there, which goes along with the amount of firms seeking our help to fill these voids.  Now is the time for you to negotiate great transition packages with new firms!  Take advantage of this anomaly and let us help you find your next opportunity.
