Today’s blog is going to address a term we’ve all heard: hitting the glass ceiling.  Whether company-imposed or self-imposed, it is something holding you back from soaring to new levels.

You’ve been at your firm for a considerable period of time, and you’ve reached the heights that you think you are capable of; however, for some reason, you are starting to feel frustrated.  You feel like Superman inside, where you can accomplish so much more…yet you’re portraying the mild-mannered reporter, Clark Kent. You want to dive into that phone booth, don your cape, and fly!  Alas, for some reason, you’re not.  It’s time to examine your personal kryptonite.  What’s really holding you back?

Kryptonite…Or Not

Most people, when they ask themselves this question, tend to blame outside circumstances. For example: the company, the platform, the competition, or even the economy.  You want to make that next move within your current firm. Or maybe you’re itching to explore new opportunities. However, there it is, that piece of rock that you’re afraid of.  You know that being exposed to that one material, you cannot move.  You have to decide what your kryptonite is, why it’s holding you back, and, more importantly, can you overcome it? 

Flying High Is Possible! 

There are plenty of great opportunities out there for aspiring bankers. You know the bankers who have been number two, they’re doing their own originations, but maybe due to firm hierarchy, they are not getting the opportunity to really go out and develop new business.  Is that you?  Or maybe firms give away the credit for the origination, and it rolls up to the manager of your particular department?  You know you’re capable of developing new business because you’ve been doing it, but not at the Superman level.  That’s where you want to be.  So, look around, and if you cannot see yourself flying above the clouds where you are, let’s talk.  Leave your kryptonite holding you back behind in 2025.
