A Recruiter’s Process Will Affect Your Progress

How do you know your recruiter is what you need?  All recruiters are not the same. Some will try to make a match no matter what the fit is while others, not knowing about your area of expertise, will try to “fake it” until they make it, that is the fee.  Then there is another type of recruiter, the good one who understands there is a process to this goal of a placement.  Today’s blog is going to go much deeper into this process.

Trust The Process

At H. Friedman Search, the process is more important than anything else, which is evidenced by our striving to understand you and your needs before any recommendations are made.  If the process is correct and thorough with your recruiter, the results will show for themselves.  Recruiting in general cannot be rushed because the end goal is a lifetime placement.  With that in mind, there are precise steps that a hiring manager needs to follow and steps that a candidate wants followed.

Honesty In The Deep End

The key is to truly dive deep down with lots of thoughtful (not robotic) questions.  Sure, anyone can get the basics, but does your recruiter really get you?  More importantly, do you get your recruiter?  If you are truly looking for your next placement to be your last, you cannot be a square peg fitting into a round hole.  That just won’t work.  You must be a perfect fit.  Therefore, your recruiter must be able to know everything about you, which requires an in-depth analysis probing all areas of your background and what you want with your next position.  Your recruiter must understand what you do every day – and again, not a surface understanding but an in-depth one.  We can’t stress that enough! The deep dive demonstrates to you as well as your hiring manager how much of a great fit you can be with the one selected firm we recommend.

The Progress: Each Step Has A Purpose

The “spaghetti thrown against the wall, see what sticks” approach does not work.  It gives neither the candidate nor the hiring manager any feeling of excitement that this particular situation is worth exploring.  However, a thought-out presentation does.  That does not mean just sending out a resume and hoping they will interview you.  No, that means taking the little known information that was revealed and sharing what makes you that special candidate they should want to hear about.  This only comes about through a process of deep discovery.  Then, and only then, do we make a recommendation and only choose one firm to introduce you to.  Why?  Simply so you stay focused and the firm knows, unless either party determines it’s not a right fit we take you down that path.  Once you start to experience the process and you can determine the in-depth knowledge of your recruiter, you will stay for the progress because everyone is different and that personal approach is what yields the best result.
