Real Interview Tips That Help: The ONE Question

I am going to be sharing what I consider crucial interview tips.  These are not necessarily the ones that you read about in books or online sources; these are actual tips that I share with each of my interviewing candidates as we prepare for their first or subsequent interviews.  They are in no particular order other than the way I am thinking about them as I write this week’s blog.  Also, the format of the blog will be different than the standard four paragraphs one I have followed since the inception of my blogs back in 2013.

Do I Want To Learn More?

This is a question that I share with every applicant.  This should be the only question that you want to answer after your first interview.  By the way, the hiring manager is also asking this question to themselves.  The purpose of this question is to have you, the candidate, totally focus only on one thing. Not the myriad of random thoughts that inevitably are going around in your head, such as: is this the place for me?  Will my clients follow me? And the list goes on!  Concentrating on this one question, it allows you to do the due diligence in your head around only one thought: the desire to gather further information, or not (while being totally present for your interview).

At the conclusion of the interview, asking this one question (do I want to learn more?) allows you to focus on the macro environment, not the micro one.  As a recruiter, when I debrief with you, that will be the only question I will ask of you…

Do you want to learn more?
